#5 TEACHER

"Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fisherman. And Jesus said to them "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." And immediately they left their nets and followed Him. And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and was TEACHING. And they were astonished at His TEACHING, for He taught them as One who had AUTHORITY, and not as the scribes." Mark 1:16-22  

"And He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He was TEACHING them on the Sabbath; and they were amazed at His TEACHING, for His message was with AUTHORITY." Luke 4:31-32 

Definition of TEACHER

: a person whose job is to instruct by precept, example, or experience

Definition of AUTHORITY

: the confident quality of someone who knows a lot about something or who is respected or obeyed by other people

Jesus, You are my TEACHER! But You are unlike any TEACHER that man has ever known! You taught with AUTHORITY - You were respected and obeyed by those who listened! The word AUTHORITY comes from the word AUTHOR - You were the AUTHOR of this world (You created the world - John 1:3)- so You have the AUTHORITY to TEACH! Just like the AUTHOR of a story understands the characters he has created - You understand me. You understand everything about me because You created me. But You are not just the AUTHOR of my life - You are the One who entered my world and laid down Your life to pay for my sin! Because of Your love for me, I WANT to follow You! No one ever has - or ever will - love me the way You love me. When You spoke, the people were amazed - You TAUGHT with AUTHORITY! Jesus, You called men to follow You - and they left everything and followed! I worship You, Jesus - my TEACHER!!
