#4 SCAPEGOAT

"Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel, and all of their transgressions in regard to all their sins, and he shall lay them on the head of the goat and send it away in the wilderness by the hand of man who stands in readiness.  And the goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a solitary land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness."  Leviticus 16:21-22; Isaiah 53:6; Hebrews 10:4, 12

Definition of SCAPEGOAT:

One that bears the blame for others : a person who is unfairly blamed for something that others have done

Jesus, You are our SCAPEGOAT!!  I usually get bogged down when I read through all the laws in Leviticus, but this year, when I came to Leviticus 16 and the explanation of the Day of Atonement,  I realized what You had done for me!!  God told Moses to provide a SCAPEGOAT for the people each year because of their sin.  He knew that they could not keep the laws He was giving them - so He provided a way for them to be cleansed from their sin year after year.  Every year, the Priest would ceremonially lay his hands on the goat and place all of the sins of the people on his head - and they would send the goat out into the wilderness.  But Hebrews tells us - "For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away our sins.   And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices which can never take away sins.  But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God."  In other words, You, Jesus, were the ultimate SCAPEGOAT who took all of my sins upon Yourself - once and for all.  There is never again a need for a sacrifice - because You paid it!!! Oh Jesus, to think that You would do this for me.   You are the only one WORTHY to worship - I bow down and worship You Jesus - for being my SCAPEGOAT!!
