#27 - GOOD TEACHER

"And as He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and began asking Him, "GOOD TEACHER, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  And Jesus said to him,  "Why do you call Me good?  No one is good except God alone.  You know the commandments, "Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness.   Do not defraud, honor your father and mother."  And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up."  And looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."  But at these words his face fell, and he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property."

Mark 10:17-18

Jesus, You are the GOOD TEACHER.  You are good - You are true, honorable, competent, skillful.  And You are the One who taught as no one ever has taught.  The rich young ruler knew that You had something no one else had.  He knelt before you as if before a King.  He offered his good works, keeping the rules, in order to obtain eternal life.   But You wanted his heart.  You wanted the thing that he was placing his identity in.    The idol that he was centering his life around.  The thing he was looking to as his Savior.  You asked him to give up the one thing that he cared about more than You.  And he couldn't do it.  What is it in my life that I am finding my identity in other than You?  What is it that I couldn't give up - to follow You?  Oh Jesus, increase my affection for You - that I might see that You are more worthy of my worship than anything this world offers.  I worship You, Jesus, as the GOOD TEACHER who sees inside my heart.  You alone are worthy of my worship!!

(What are you loving more than Jesus?  Worship Him today as the GOOD TEACHER, who alone is worthy of worship!)#100dayswithjesus
