#59 SHEPHERD

"Awake, O sword, against my SHEPHERD, against the man who stands next to me,"  declares the Lord of hosts.  "Strike the SHEPHERD, and the sheep will be scattered;"  Zechariah 13:7 (ESV)

"Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, "I will strike down the SHEPHERD, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered."  But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee."  Matthew 26:31-32

 DEFINITION OF SHEPHERD

: to guide someone or something : pastor :  to tend as a shepherd : to guide or guard in the manner of a shepherd  :  a person who tends sheep

Jesus, You are our SHEPHERD!  What a comfort this is to me!  You are the one who guides and guards me, who pastors me, who takes care of me.  You quoted the verse in Zechariah as You were going to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, on the night You were betrayed.   Jesus, You are the Good SHEPHERD - the One who laid down His life for the sheep!  (John 10:11)  One of my favorite books is the classic "God of All Comfort" by Hannah Whitall Smith.  She asks the question "If all of this is true of the Shepherd, what is the part of the sheep?  The part of the sheep is very simple.  It is only to trust and to follow.  There is nothing complicated in trusting, when the One we are called upon to trust is absolutely trustworthy."   Jesus, You are absolutely trustworthy!!  You are the Good SHEPHERD - the One who loved the world so much that You laid down Your life for us!!  I can trust You today Jesus - with our future and with our world!!!

Worship and trust in Jesus, our SHEPHERD,  today!

(Are you keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus today?  He is our trustworthy SHEPHERD!)
