#16 DESPISED

"But I am a worm, and not a man, scorned by mankind and DESPISED by the people." Psalm 22:6

"He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.  He was DESPISED and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face.  He was DESPISED and we did not esteem Him."  Isaiah 53:2-3

"And He was teaching daily in the temple.  The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy Him."  Luke 19:47

Definition of  DESPISED

: to dislike something or someone very much :  to look down on with contempt or aversion

Jesus, You were DESPISED.  You were not a celebrity.   You were DESPISED and hated, and the religious leaders wanted to destroy You.   You were mocked and treated with contempt at Your trial and on the cross.  Why did You endure this?  Why would You, the King of Kings, allow man to DESPISE You?  Because Your purpose was to pay the penalty for sin.  You knew that man would DESPISE and misunderstand You, but You came anyway.  Jesus, thank You for humbling Yourself and coming to earth - even being "acquainted with grief" for me.  I worship You, Jesus!!
