#40 - IMMANUEL

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.  When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.  And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.  But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying  "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus for He will save His people from their sins."  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had  spoken by the prophet:  "Behold , the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name IMMANUEL." (which means, GOD WITH US).  When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son.  And he called his name Jesus."  Matthew 1:23

: used to say that people or things are together in one place

Jesus, You are IMMANUEL - GOD WITH US!  God and man are together in one place.   You were prophesied about 700 years before in Isaiah 7:14 - "Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel."  The angel told Joseph specifically what Your purpose would be.  Your purpose was to save Your people from their sins.  This was why  You were conceived by the Holy Spirit - this was why You were born. Jesus, this is the most important moment in all of history.  God coming to earth as a man.  You left Your throne in heaven to live in a broken world as a man.  I have heard this so many times at Christmas, that the truth of it fails to hit me.  But not only do You understand me because You lived on this earth, but You came with one purpose.  To save me from my sins.  Only You can rescue me from my sins - and pay my debt for them!!  Jesus, I worship You and thank You for coming to earth as a man - to save Your people from their sins!!!
